Description

The single molecule setup uses a confocal microscope for optical characterization of solutions and surfaces down to a single molecule resolution. It consists of a microscope (Nikon) coupled to a pulsed laser. Excitation is available from 480–750 nm from a super continuum white light laser with 6-ps pulses (Fianium). The instruments can monitor a number of fluorescent properties on the surface including fluorescent lifetime via time-correlated single photon counting, anisotropy and multiple wavelengths. The fluorescence detection range is 450–850 nm. The spatial resolution of this system is less than 500 nm. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy can be measured using a correlator with 25 ns time resolution.
