J L Shephard 484-2 Irradiator

Description

Use: Gamma Radiation Damage

Options: Total Ionizing Dose TID

The J.L. Shepherd & Associates Model 484R-2 is a self-contained Cobalt-60 research irradiator designed for controlled gamma-radiation exposure of samples. Researchers can select one or more of three Cobalt-60 sources and control dose through sample position, distance from the sources and irradiation time, making the system suitable for gamma radiation damage studies and Total Ionizing Dose (TID) testing.

The irradiator can support experiments that require researchers to expose materials, components or other samples to a defined gamma-radiation dose and then evaluate how their properties or performance change. Samples can be positioned within the irradiation chamber using a mounting fixture, with dose conditions established from position, source selection and exposure time; researchers can then carry those irradiated samples into subsequent characterization, electrical testing, materials analysis or other post-exposure measurements. The manual specifically notes that sample dose is determined by positioning, distance from the sources and irradiation time, and that calibrated isodose information is provided for selecting irradiation conditions.
