ASU Core Facilities are more than advanced equipment — our extensive expertise and experienced staff offer a range of services.

Custom fabrication, prototyping and repair

Whether you need to recreate an out-of-production part or design and build something completely new, our extensive suite of fabrication, prototyping and repair services are ready to assist. For instance, our Instrument Design and Fabrication core can create nearly anything — from bespoke instrumentation to machined parts — as well as repair equipment and electronics. The facilities within the Semiconductor Device Processing core are equipped to develop, prototype and produce a range of devices down to the microscale.

Project development

From conception to completion, our facilities and personnel are on hand to help move your projects along. We offer assistance with grant writing, proposal review, expert analysis and consultation to help you develop projects to their full potential.

Sample processing

ASU Core Facilities possess a range of equipment to fulfill sample processing and characterization. Our services include materials characterization; surface, optical and structural analysis; and high-resolution electron microscopy, as well as a suite of different biosciences and clinical sample analysis and processing capabilities.

Workforce development and training

Looking to upskill up your workforce, train students or earn certifications on new equipment? A number of ASU Core Facilities offer one-on-one instruction, seminars, workshops and in-depth training to meet your training and workforce development needs. 

Proposal development

Core Research Facilities can assist you with grant writing for projects that will use our equipment or services. This includes providing quotes for your proposal budgets and letters of support to verify that we have the resources needed to support your proposed research.

This certification allows the Instrument Design and Fabrication core to work on specialized projects in aerospace, defense, Federal Aviation Administration and space, and is one of only a few U.S. university facilities able to do so.

Combined, ASU Core Facilities encompass close to 50,000 square feet of clean room space, hosting a range of capabilities, including nanofabrication, nanoscale processing and electronics design, solar cell fabrication and testing, and more.
