Get started with Advanced Electronics and Packaging
The Advanced Electronics and Packaging core facility is open to ASU students and faculty, researchers from external institutions, and industry users.
AEP’s capabilities are multifaceted. For industry, AEP is a full-service foundry resource where processing can be completed by on-site staff, or customers may participate in process development through scheduled use of equipment. AEP is also an educational resource, where students seeking hands-on experience can learn about process development and receive training on equipment.
Please review the Safety and Usage Agreement for the AEP as it has recently changed.
AEP does not allow entry into its labs unless there is an active iLab request for the time of entry. Unauthorized student use without a reservation will be billed at $40/hour for a minimum of 8 hours per violation.
Schedule equipment training and usage or request a project
All scheduling is handled through iLab.
Learn more about iLab and how to sign up.
Once you have an account, you can schedule equipment and training through the AEP Core iLab page.
Building access and required training
You need to secure building access in order to use the AEP facility and equipment. If you do not, facility personnel must escort you during facility visits, and you will be billed for staff labor. If you have an ASU Sun Card already, please continue to the checklist below, otherwise start the ASU affiliate process here.
- Safety training is provided through Workday Learning. Customers from outside of ASU will receive access after onboarding with Core Research Facilities staff. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
Required trainings include:- Fire Safety
- Hazardous Waste Training
- Laboratory Safety
- If you will be using hydrofluoric acid, you must also complete the Hydrofluoric Acid Safety Training
- Complete the MacroTechnology Works Site Orientation, which is managed by the MTW Facilities Team. If you have any questions regarding access to the building, contact Brian McNamara at 480-727-8956 and [email protected].
- Each user requires at least one training session on the equipment of interest. The training includes instruction on clean room procedures (if the equipment is in the clean room) and safety specific to the lab where the equipment is located. We do not provide access to any AEP labs without completion of at least one equipment training session associated with the lab of interest.
- Read the AEP Safety Handbook. When setting up your first training, you will have to acknowledge that you read and understand the handbook.
- Fill out the security access form, scan it and send it to Mike Marrs at [email protected].
Schedule equipment use and training
- Sign in to iLab and go to the AEP iLab page.
- Select the “Schedule Equipment” tab at the top of the page.
- Under the dropdown menus, find the equipment you wish to use.
- Click the “view schedule” button next to the equipment to schedule time. Click the “request training” button to sign up for training on the equipment.
Uber discounts for students
AEP is located in the ASU Research Park near the Loop 101 and Elliot Road in Tempe. To assist students coming from the Tempe campus, ASU has partnered with Uber to offer a credit for round-trip travel between Tempe campus and the MacroTechnology Works building. If you would be interested in participating in this program, email your cell phone number and the name of the faculty member you work with to [email protected].
