20. PV Measurements QEX10

Description

The Solar Fab houses a Solar Cell Spectral Response Measurement System, Model QEX10, manufactured by PV Measurements. The QE system measures the spectral response of photovoltaic cell by employing a monochromatic light source to apply specific wavelength light to the device under test. Induced current in the test device is converted to a voltage which is measured with signal conditioning equipment and digital signal processing software. A computer controls the various system components, thereby automating data collection, analysis, reporting, and calibration. Reflectance and internal quantum efficiency measurements are possible, as is triple junction solar cell characterization. Various test fixtures accommodate pieces up to 156 mm square solar cells. Through the use of both Si and Ge photodiodes, the available spectral range for measurement is from 300 – 1700 nm. The source is a xenon arc lamp coupled to a monochromator, filters and reflective optics to provide stable monochromatic light.
